Becoming a Christian - The A,B,C’s

A  Admit your need.
Deep down all of us know that we are far from perfect. When we compare ourselves with other people, yes we may feel we are better than some, yet we would probably admit that we are no saint either. Deep down many of us feel ashamed and guilty because of things that we have said, done or even thought. The bible tells us that, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”(Romans 3:23). We need God to forgive us and free us from our sin. Many of us also have a deep longing for something more in life, a feeling that something is missing, the need for someone greater than us to help us and give us strength and hope and fulfilment.
Admit we need God to forgive us and fulfil us.

B  Believe in Jesus Christ.
The most famous verse in the bible says that God loved so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).
We have to trust that what the bible says about Jesus is true – that he is God’s Son, that he lived a perfect life, that he died in our place to take the punishment for our sin, and that God raised Him back to life.
Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6) When we put our trust in Jesus – God forgives our sin, restores us to a right relationship with Him, and gives us His Holy Spirit to help us live lives that please Him.

C  Commit yourself / your life to Jesus Christ.
'But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God'(John 1:12-13). They are reborn! This is not a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan—this rebirth comes from God. When you commit your life to Christ you are inviting Him to be the Leader and Forgiver of your life. This gives us a spiritual rebirth … salvation.

Simple prayer of commitment:
'Dear Lord Jesus, I am sorry for the wrong things that I have done (take time to confess any specific sins that come to mind). I admit my need for forgiveness. My sin has separated us, and I want a new start with You. I accept the sacrifice you made for me on the Cross and I turn from my own way of life to following you as my Leader. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit and live in me forever.   Thank You for saving me. Amen.'

After you have made a commitment to Christ...

If you have given your life to Christ, the devil will try to make you doubt that God has really saved you and changed your life. The Bible says that the devil is a liar and a deceiver who only wants to destroy our lives and prevent us from enjoying all that God wants for us.
(John 8:44; John 10:10)

Jesus promises us that when we hear his voice and follow him 'I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand.'  (John 10:28)

Three things to do after you become a Christian:

1.  Tell someone – Romans 10:9 says it is important the we 'confess with our mouth' as well as 'believing in our heart'.

2.  Spend time with God each day – We get to know Him better by reading His Word (Bible) and talking to Him (prayer).

3.  Become a committed member of a local church.  The church is the body of Christ and everyone who believes has a part to play in it (1 Corinthians 12:27). Followers of Jesus attend Church to praise God and sing to Him, to learn more about Him, to join in and be part of His family, and to serve Him – every Christian is needed to help make the Church grow.
